BEACHFRONT IN THE HAMPTONS BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY

Well, folks, it's the last unofficial weekend of summer and the Hamptons are buzzing with stories.

The best one we found was about a guy who took advantage of Hurricane Irene to claim ownership of some pretty pricey (and sandy) property.  See below, as reported by the East Hampton Star.  I'm sure the neighbors are thrilled.....

Homeowner Uses Hurricane As Excuse To Claim Beach Ownership

A homeowner near Georgica Beach is using erosion caused by last weekend's hurricane as an excuse to claim ownership of the beach and he (or she) has erected a metal fence to mark their newly conquered territory. The owner reasons that "because the metes and bounds of their land extended, before it eroded, to the spot marked by the seaward end of their fence, the beach was now theirs" and according to a man who spoke to a spokesman for the property owner, "the plan was to close off the beach property in question with a hard structure." If that's true, this property owner is in for a whole world of hurt from a community that definitely won't let that happen.
